In Glen Rock, Rock Road Changes Its Drink Policy Every Few Doors

October 22, 2026

Which Glen Rock dinner tables can actually pour you a glass of wine? The answer comes from a single Mayor and Council resolution, renewed every June. The current version took effect July 1, 2026, and the full list fits in five entries.

A lot of people think of Glen Rock as a bring-your-own town, and that's only partly true. The June 10, 2026 council minutes renew four plenary retail consumption licenses, the kind a restaurant or bar uses to serve drinks. They also renew one plenary retail distribution license, the package-store kind. What makes Glen Rock dining interesting is where those licenses sit. They're on the same two short stretches of Rock Road and Prospect Street as the BYOB spots and the counters that serve no alcohol. You don't cross town to switch from one kind of dinner to the other. You walk a few doors.

The Five Lines That Decide the Drinks List

This is the whole roster as the borough renewed it for July 1, 2026:

  1. Jalapenos Mexican Grille, 930 Prospect Street. Consumption license.
  2. Stone and Rail, 175 Rock Road. Consumption license.
  3. Glen Rock Inn, 216–222 Rock Road. Consumption license.
  4. Glen Rock Holdings, LLC, 7 Main Street and 190 Rock Road. Consumption license.
  5. Food Universal Marketplace, 937 Lincoln Avenue. Distribution license, the town's one package store.

The fourth entry doesn't have a dining room attached to it on the borough's list. The license is tied to 7 Main Street and 190 Rock Road, and it was renewed in 2025 and again in 2026. Back in June 2020, the Planning Board heard an application to turn the first floor of 7 Main Street into a restaurant. The borough record doesn't name a restaurant operating at either address today. For practical purposes, that leaves three places in town where you can sit down and order a drink.

Rock Road, Door by Door

Put Rock Road's dining addresses in street-number order and the pattern is easy to see. Licensed rooms and non-licensed rooms take turns.

Address Place Food Drinks
175 Rock Road Stone & Rail Restaurant and bar Licensed to serve
206 Rock Road Tani Pan-Asian, including Thai, Chinese, Japanese and sushi B.Y.O.B., per its own site
216–222 Rock Road Glen Rock Inn Full menu, online ordering Licensed to serve
251 Rock Road Taste of Haifa Mediterranean, including shawarma, falafel and hummus No BYOB policy posted

Tani's contact page says "B.Y.O.B." plainly. Tani sits between two of the town's three working bar licenses, at 175 and 216–222 Rock Road. If your group can't agree on sushi with your own bottle versus a beer on draft, you're arguing about a stretch of sidewalk.

Taste of Haifa is the newest name on the strip. Boozy Burbs reported it open in February 2026. Its site lists hours and online ordering but says nothing either way about bringing a bottle, so call ahead before you carry one in.

Prospect Street Runs the Same Pattern Up North

Over on Prospect Street, three addresses within 32 numbers of each other repeat the Rock Road mix:

  • Zalim Hot Chicken & Burgers, 898 Prospect Street. Nashville-style hot chicken, burgers, tenders and milkshakes. Boozy Burbs reported it open in July 2026 as the chain's third location.
  • Spice Factory, 918 Prospect Street. Indian street food and tandoori. A guest testimonial on the restaurant's site calls it BYOB.
  • Jalapenos Mexican Grille, 930 Prospect Street. Licensed to serve, with its menu and carryout hours on its website.

So the two blocks behave alike. On each one, a single licensed room is a short walk from a BYOB spot and a newer counter that doesn't serve alcohol. Both of the 2026 openings, Taste of Haifa in February and Zalim in July, landed on the unlicensed side. Neither one changed the drinks map.

Where the Bottle Comes From

If your table is a BYOB table, the license list points to one in-town store. That's the distribution license at 937 Lincoln Avenue. The borough document calls it Food Universal Marketplace, and the Glen Rock Chamber of Commerce lists it as Food Universe Marketplace, with a liquor store selling wine, spirits and beer. If you're headed to Tani or Spice Factory, plan for a stop on Lincoln Avenue first, because neither restaurant sells a bottle.

The Three Licensed Rooms Each Own a Different Part of the Week

With so few rooms that can pour, it matters how each one spends its license. Their schedules overlap less than you might expect.

Stone & Rail runs the busiest weekday calendar. The schedule on its website shows:

Day Kitchen Happy hour Extra
Tuesday 4–10 PM 4–6 PM Teacher Tuesday from 4 PM; trivia at 7 PM
Wednesday 4–10 PM 4–6 PM —
Thursday 11 AM–10 PM 4–6 PM Bar open until about midnight
Friday 11 AM–11 PM 4–6 PM Live music 5–8 PM, local bands 8:30–11:30 PM

Friday at Stone & Rail is a six-hour stretch of music, and the bar stays open until roughly 1 AM. On Thursdays and Fridays the kitchen opens at 11 AM, which means lunch there comes with a full drinks list.

Glen Rock Inn treats the holidays as its main events. Its events page lists a Halloween party on Saturday, October 31, from 11 AM to 11 PM, with an invitation to "bring your best costume." Next on the page is New Year's Eve, Thursday, December 31, from 11 AM to 10 PM.

Jalapenos is the only licensed room on the Prospect Street side. That makes it the one place up there where everyone at the table can order a drink.

Both Rock Road licensees also got some backing from the borough for dining outside. At a September 2024 work session, the council talked about keeping the outdoor seating at Stone and Rail and the Glen Rock Inn. Members noted that permanent extensions could require amending the liquor licenses, then voted unanimously to pursue an ordinance or resolution that would let the existing outdoor areas continue.

Halloween Weekend on Two Blocks

This weekend shows how close together all of this sits. For its first Rock-O-Lantern, the borough invited residents to carve their own jack-o'-lanterns and bring them to Borough Hall for a lighting at dusk this week. The borough's notice says the pumpkins will stay on the Borough Hall property until after Halloween weekend. The borough also planned to announce the three winners of its Most Haunted house contest at the lantern ceremony.

That gives you three different dinner options around the same pumpkins:

  • Friday, October 30: Stone & Rail's live music runs 5 to 8 PM, with local bands from 8:30 PM, if its regular Friday schedule holds.
  • Saturday, October 31: Glen Rock Inn's costume party runs 11 AM to 11 PM at 222 Rock Road.
  • Either night, quieter: Pick up a bottle on Lincoln Avenue, then head to Tani at 206 Rock Road or Spice Factory at 918 Prospect Street. Spice Factory has also been promoting a Sunday brunch this year.

Count the dining addresses in this post and you get seven on Rock Road and Prospect Street. Three of them can pour you a drink. Each of the two confirmed BYOB tables shares its street with one that can.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how a place looks when you walk in, whether it's a staged living room or a dining room on Rock Road.
